We offer support, help and information to young people who have ADHD and associated difficulties, also to their families and the people who care for them, mainly in the Stafford area.
Our aim is to raise awareness of ADHD, leading to a greater understanding within the wider community of the complex issues surrounding this condition. Also to press for more coherent provision across all agencies involved.
We have access to members of the South Staffordshire CAMHS, Educational Psychology Service, Behaviour Support Team and the Autism Team for informal advice.
At the moment we are based in Stafford, but hope that similar Groups will form in other localities. We are happy to put you in touch with others closer to where you live if we can.
We try to hold meetings approximately every six weeks and anyone is welcome to join us - parents, carers, family friends, teachers and other professionals. The meetings last for about two hours and are informal and relaxed - somewhere to share experiences and information. Sometimes, guest speakers are invited who can offer us all invaluable advice and information. For those who cannot attend meetings, a copy of our newsletter can be mailed on request. Alternatively, it can be downloaded from this website. We also organise social activities. Generally, the events are designed around the young people, enabling them to get to know others with the same difficulties and share experiences and this has proved popular but we hope to offer other sessions for parents too, particularly during the winter months.
If you are interested in joining us or would like more information, please telephone Joanna Francis (Psychologist) on 01785 259449. Alternatively, you can e-mail her at joanna.francis@sssft.nhs.uk
Being a parent of a child with ADHD is not easy.
We will be only too pleased to help in any way we can.
Please remember that whatever happens - You are not alone.
